It’s an incredible honor for me to celebrate the achievements of my students who have successfully completed the Manufacturing Association’s Pre-Apprenticeship Program. This intensive, hands-on experience opened the door for them to explore advanced manufacturing and machining—building a strong foundation for exciting careers in today’s high-demand technical fields.
Over the course of the program, students mastered essential skills such as precision measuring, blueprint reading, and proper use of manufacturing tools and technology. They also earned their
OSHA 10-Hour Safety Certification, a significant credential that demonstrates their understanding of workplace safety—a critical component in any skilled trade.
One of the most engaging aspects of the program was the hands-on training, which took place at the Manufacturer's Association in York, PA. Students had the opportunity to produce real projects including custom aluminum dice and a metal tic-tac-toe board, using industrial-grade equipment and practicing real-world techniques.
At the culmination of the program, students will graduate with a
Pre-Apprenticeship Certificate and receive 64 credited hours that count toward a registered apprenticeship—putting them ahead of the game in their career journey.
As I reflect on my very first graduating class, I’m filled with pride and gratitude. Watching these students grow through real-world experiences has been incredible, and hearing their reflections makes this milestone even more meaningful.
Henna Windemaker shared, "Even if you don't want to go into manufacturing, you should still try out this program because it gives you good experience, and you might change your mind." Her words capture the heart of what these opportunities are all about — opening minds and creating new possibilities.
Maddison Mashtare said, "I feel like I am more confident to get into apprenticeship programs because of the opportunities it presents me, such as learning experience, payment, and help with college." Her confidence shows how hands-on learning can set the foundation for future success.
And from one of our students who preferred to remain anonymous: "I feel more prepared to enter a technical or apprenticeship program in the future because now I know how to read blueprints." This reflection reminds us that sometimes it’s the practical skills, learned quietly and steadily, that have the biggest impact.
These students are a shining example of what real-world learning can achieve. Their journeys are just beginning, and I cannot wait to see where their hard work, passion, and new skills will take them. They will always hold a special place as the class that started it all — and I’m so excited to continue building these opportunities for the students who follow.
