West Perry High School’s chapter of Aevidum recently submitted a sixty-second video and a poster to Prevent Suicide PA’s Youth PSA Contest. This group, an outgrowth of the Aevidum national movement begun by Lancaster County’s Cocalico High School students, is dedicated to destigmatizing mental health struggles, normalizing seeking support, and bringing an end to teen suicide.

Prevent Suicide PA is an organization that aims “to support those who are affected by suicide, provide education, awareness, and understanding by collaborating with the community to prevent suicide, and reduce the stigma associated with suicide.” They created the group Drive Out Suicide to recognize individuals that struggle with suicidal intentions and to help the loved ones all around us, and to offer help to anyone who needs it. Each year, Prevent Suicide PA holds a youth PSA contest encouraging high school students in the Commonwealth to raise their voices and take an active role in suicide prevention.

Both pieces created by the Aevidum club were chosen as finalists in their respective categories, and now we need your help! From now until February 24, you can vote once a day for the sixty-second video (labeled 4D)  and the poster (labeled 1K) to increase the chances of being named the winners for each category.

If interested, please visit psa.preventsuicidepa.org and vote today!

The poster was designed by Jalyssa Zellers and Breanna Sleva and the sixty second video, found here, was produced and edited by Emma Gehret, Mitchell Radel, Gabby Zimmerman, and Abby Hess
