West Perry Winter Guard Spins to Success
Winter Gurard 2019

The West Perry Winter Guard wrapped up its most successful season in the program’s history.  In April, the Winter Guard claimed the Region 6 Intermediate A guard title at the Tournament Indoor Association Championships at Lower Dauphin High School.

The Guard then set its sights on the TIA Atlantic Coast Regional Championships May 3-5 in Wildwood, NJ.  The Guard finished 10th out of 26 Guards after competing in three rounds of competition:  preliminary, semi-final, and final.  The Guard earned their highest score of the season in semi-finals with an 87.85.  This was West Perry’s first trip to compete at ACC Championships.

Color guard members perform with flags, rifles, and sabers.  The season is long starting in December with practices two to three times each week and six competitions starting in February and wrapping up in May.

“This year’s show – You are the Reason – is the most complex show I’ve designed.” Said Nicole Wood, Winter Guard instructor.  “I knew this group of students was capable of the difficult work the show required.  They didn’t disappoint.  They worked hard.  Our goal all year was to make top 10 at Wildwood; a lofty goal considering it was our first time competing there.  I am so proud of every one of these students.”

The 2019 Winter Guard is made up of 18 students.  Seniors:  Abby Durand, Chase Green, Gabby Hull, Ava Mullen, Emma Shope, Paige Shope and Bailey Walters.  Juniors:  Cassidy Grove and Trinity Snyder.  Sophomores:  Delaney Campbell, Adrienne Forgione, and Raiven Trimble.  Freshman Madison Hatt, Nevaeh Kitner, Ali Leister, Lacey Shirk, Victoria Taylor, and Madison Weary.
