Driving to a Win

Driving to a Win
Competition Winners

In April, three West Perry seniors traveled to the Capital Area Intermediate Unit to compete in the Safe Driving Competition for Youth. The Safe Driving Competition is sponsored by South Central PA Highway Safety and the PA Department of Transportation. Students from High Schools in Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin and Perry counties compete for scholarship money and other prizes.

West Perry's team consisted of Matt Chiccini, Timber Thebes, and Max Austin. Each team member demonstrated their driving knowledge with a written test, a perception test and a skills driving test.  They also performed a pre-trip vehicle check which measured their ability to be aware of their surroundings .

Under the leadership of West Perry's Driver Education teacher, Mr. Boden, Timber placed first in every category as well as first overall. Matt placed second overall and Max placed third. As winners, the team earned prize money, bragging rights and a trophy to display for the year.

Congratulations to our safe drivers!
