Training and Workshop Opportunities

CPARC is offering Social Skills learning groups for Middle School and High School Students. The middle school group will be for students who have autism (only) and the high school group will be for students with intellectual disabilities. The purpose of the groups is to complement skills that your student may be learning in school and take the learning out of the classroom, providing a focused approach to social skill building in a different environment.

Two six week sessions are planned during which the following will be included:

  • Basic social interactions: eye contact, personal space, when is physical contact acceptable and in what form?
  • Conversation skills: beginning and ending conversations, determining appropriate topics for conversation
  • Skills to interact with others: resolving conflict, taking turns
  • Interacting with authority figures

The groups will be led by Ms. Shari Brenizer. Shari has 15 years’ experience in special education. She has extensive experience teaching students in autism support, learning support and emotional support classrooms. Shari has a Masters in Human Services and Education, and is certified in Special Education K-12. Ms. Brenizer will have an assistant during the sessions. Both will be CPR/1st Aid certified and will have all background clearances. These include a police check, a ChildLine check and a FBI check.
