I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to each of you, or at the very least, give you some history. My life experiences include: being raised on a farm, serving in the United States Air Force, obtaining my undergraduate degree from York College of Pa, Masters from Western Maryland College, and Doctorate from Immaculata University. I come to you as a former teacher (middle school for 7 years), coach (20 years: basketball, volleyball, and Junior Olympics), high school administrator (14 years) and superintendent (3 years, Elk County).
Since arriving at West Perry in June of 2014, we have worked to upgrade facilities, enhance curricula, train staff, adapt to legislative changes and offer a quality learning environment for our students. We can all be proud of what has been accomplished but there is much to do as we continue to meet the needs of our students. Political pressure and legislative changes will be significant challenges that we will be forced to address. The budget process of 2016-2017 caused us to eliminate 22.5 teaching and 5 para-educator positions. We must collectively reach out to our elected officials and demand a fair and adequate funding level. The rising costs of special education, cyber-charter, private schools and pension, which are mandated by the government, will continue to strain our financial resources.
In closing, I am very excited to continue my service to you and the West Perry School District as we collaboratively strive to educate our students. If you would like to meet with me in person, please contact my secretary (Mrs. Sheaffer) to schedule an appointment.
